Rhythm

Rhythm is an interesting thing.  It drives much of what we do even though perhaps we don't think about it.  Often when thinking of rhythm I think of a driving bass beat in a hit song.  There's really so much more to it though.  Rhythm drives our lives. (nice little rhyme there) I think our culture has perhaps lost its rhythm.

In older societies the production of food drove the rhythm of life.  One would likely work during daylight hours and then go to bed.  Our culture has artificial light whenever we want it and we can get basically anything we want whenever we want.  We get so busy doing so many things that we lose a natural flow to our lives.  Sometimes even getting outside is a rarity.  Doing some physical exercise can be forgotten.  Our rhythm flows around a fast paced technological world.  Is this a bit like artificial flavouring in our food?  It imitates the real thing, but in the end it's not the real thing and it isn't even good for us.

Life is meant to be lived in a natural rhythm.  Think of our bodies.  Our heart beats in rhythm.  We breathe in rhythm.  We sleep in rhythm (unless you snore).  We get tired when it gets dark.  Perhaps we need to lose a bit of the artificial and find a natural rhythm.  Try it out.  Find a groove.

A beginning

So I have decided to start blogging.  Here it is.  Writing by me.

I enjoy writing and it's been a while since I have written consistently.  The last time I wrote consistently was when I was on the island of St. Vincent for a missions internship.  I wrote weekly updates and posted them on facebook.  It was fun for me and apparently people read them and even enjoyed them (probably just my family and good friends).  Maybe they were being nice.  Maybe my writing was good.  The cool thing about the internet is that you get to decide.

I just finished writing the description for this space.  I want to write about things that bring life.  I think life can be a marvelous adventure and that it is meant to be lived to its full potential, thus my theme.  Many things bring life, many things don't.  Oxygen brings life.  Carbon monoxide doesn't.  Yet they both contain oxygen.  Don't breathe carbon monoxide.  Enjoy life.
